My Story
Dr. Katherine Arias Garcia is a current NSF STEM Education Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Irvine School of Education and a former Chancellor fellow at UC Irvine, Department of Chicano/Latino Studies. She earned her PhD in Education from UC San Diego. Dr. Garcia employs critical and asset-based frameworks that center Latinx students' cultural assets and knowledge to examine the persistence of Latinx students in higher education, particularly in STEM and Medicine. Dr. Garcia's work has been published in the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, and the Journal of Latinos in Education. She received the 2024 American Educational Research Association Latinx Interest Group Outstanding Dissertation Award.
